VASCULAR SONOGRAPHER to be part of the innovative team in the D. E. Strandness Jr. Vascular Laboratory at the University of Washington. Under general direction, the Vascular Sonographer independently performs vascular tests from all 5 major testing areas (extracranial carotid, intracranial cerebrovascular, peripheral arterial, peripheral venous, and visceral vascular). These examinations range from standard tests such as carotid duplex for internal carotid stenosis and venous duplex for acute deep vein thrombosis to specialized protocols developed for our specific patient population and referring providers. For example, we have developed a “Sprint Protocol” for athletes with iliac artery endofibrosis and have created an ultrasound protocol for diagnosis of pelvic venous disorders.
Our staff are expected to adapt established testing protocols for individual patients based on the history and preliminary findings in order to document the information necessary to accurately determine the diagnosis. The Vascular Sonographer also supports Vascular Surgery in the operating room when requested for intraoperative monitoring and assessment. Finally, the Vascular Sonographer supports the educational mission of the D. E. Strandness Jr. Vascular Laboratory by teaching residents and fellows in various University of Washington training programs and sonography students from several CAAHEP-accredited diagnostic medical sonography programs, and by contributing to research projects.

Perform high level vascular tests, independent of physician supervision.
Use variety of instrumentation.
Tailor examinations to answer the clinical question.
Prepare preliminary reports based on findings.
Maintain exam room and equipment in accordance with our safety policy.
Utilize multiple vascular testing instruments and identify when maintenance issues occur.
Review patient medical history and supporting clinical information to ensure the appropriate test is being performed.
Ensure indications are appropriate for the examination ordered.
Communicate with the patient in a manner appropriate to the patient’s ability to understand and explain the test that will be performed.
Perform examinations and apply criteria according to the laboratory protocols.
Provide thorough documentation according to the exam protocol and any additional images necessary to support interpretation.
Prepare a preliminary report including comparisons to any previous vascular tests.
Alert referring provider or vascular surgery team of positive examination results.
Contribute to quality assurance processes.
Assist with training of medical residents and student interns.
Participate in research activities
Share in call rotation and coverage of satellite laboratory.
Performing related duties as required.

Desired Skills:
• Ability to interpret all of above listed examinations
• Ability to prepare preliminary and final reports.
• 5 years of experience in a hospital-based vascular laboratory.
Experience performing exams in a hospital/operating room setting
• Willing to rotate to satellite laboratory.
• Ability to present findings at case conference.
• Willing to perform exams at the bedside.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Completion of a training program accredited by the American Medical Association – Committee on Allied Health Education (AMA-CAHEA) for vascular ultrasound AND possess current registration as a Registered Vascular Technologist through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers OR Equivalent education/experience.

Noninvasive Vascular Laboratory is recruiting a Registered Vascular Technologist to be a part of our team. We are a private, full service vascular laboratory as part of General Vascular Surgery, serving inpatient and outpatient environments for board certified vascular surgeons, hospitalists and a wide outpatient referral base.

As part of the team, technologists perform non-invasive vascular testing including, but not limited to, cerebrovascular, upper and lower extremity arterial duplex and physiologic evaluation, upper and lower venous duplex, abdominal and renal artery, dialysis access evaluation and preoperative vein mapping. You will have close interactions with the vascular surgeons and your inputs are invaluable to them.

The Swedish Vascular Ultrasound Department in beautiful Seattle, Washington is seeking an experienced Registered Vascular Sonographer to join our team. This is an opportunity to utilize your skills in peripheral, visceral and carotid examinations while developing expertise in neurovascular transcranial Doppler exams. Mentoring and instruction provided by expert staff in advanced applications of transcranial Doppler and support provided to achieve the Neurovascular Specialist Credential. The lab is located in a 200 bed specialty hospital supporting the Swedish Heart & Vascular and Neuroscience Institutes. The program is accredited by IAC in all five specialties

Experience & Skills:
Three years working independently performing peripheral, carotid and visceral studies; experience writing preliminary reports and preparing final reports, experience performing exams for inpatients, outpatients and during surgery preferred.

Completion of a training program accredited by the American Medical Association – Committee on Allied Health Education (AMA-CAHEA) for vascular ultrasound and current certification as a Registered Vascular Technologist through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers or equivalent education/experience.
